We have previously constructed a yeast artificial chromosome (YAC) physical map for Arabidopsis chromosome 2 (Zachgo et al., 1996) and in a "2 Mb region" in the vicinity of 80 cM, a higher-resolution map composed primarily of BAC clones (Wang et al., 1997). The Institute for Genome Research (TIGR) is sequencing chromosome 2. As part of this effort we have sequenced three BACs (T7D17, T7M7, and T14P1) in the "2 Mb region" and another BAC (T8P21) that maps to the region around 74 cM of chromosome 2. In addition we have sequenced the unique region of F27I1 that closes a gap between T28M21 and T7M7 in the "2 Mb region". Different software and database search tools were used for gene prediction with varying results. The sequences obtained and the results of the gene prediction programs and blast searches are presented graphically. These data are preliminary; the final data and annotations will be available at the TIGR web site.
